Lien has been a part of Francis House Center for over ten years and is our reliable Friday morning Direct Services volunteer. Starting out as a member of the FHC Board of Directors under the leadership of former Executive Director Greg Bunker, Lien has an incredible story that spans decades.
She came to the United States from Viet Nam in 1975 as a refugee fleeing from the Communist regime, continuing her college education in Massachusetts. After graduating from Salem State University, she relocated to Sacramento in 1979. Except for one year of working at the UC Davis Medical Center, Lien spent her entire career with the State of California until her retirement.
Originally Lien volunteered her time working in various committees at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. When Francis House requested a representative from the Cathedral, Lien came over in 2006 to join our Board of Directors. She fell in love with the organization and eventually became a Direct Services volunteer.
Lien is actively involved in the Sacramento community. Three of her greatest passions are children, music, and the under-served. In addition to Francis House, Lien volunteers her time working at other non-profit organizations such as the Sacramento Youth Symphony (SYS), St. Ignatius Loyola Church, UC Davis Medical Center, and Sacramento Children’s Chorus. As a member of the SYS Board of Directors, this summer Lien will be chaperoning the SYS young musicians on a concert tour to Vienna, Budapest, and Prague. She loves music, performing arts, and ballroom dancing.
Lien is loved by us all as a valuable member of Francis House’s volunteer workforce. Her belief that Francis House is “in the business of giving people hope” is infectious, and her compassionate work and attitude are just as contagious.
Her work is inspiring not only for our clients but also for the Francis House staff.
Thank you for all you do, Lien!
